Next-round power tariff to be unchanged

Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand Governor Kraisri Karnasutra said on Wednesday that the power fuel tariffs for the next round, between October 2007 to January 2008, should remain unchanged.

Kraisri noted that though during the period, the hydropower ratio would drop and the purchase of 300MW of power from Malaysia is still unsolved, the third natural gas pipeline is completed and operational.

"As natural gas would replace fuel in power generating, this should reduce the generating cost. Meanwhile, the baht is strong, bringing down the energy costs," Kraisri noted.
