Chanvit to try out a new style

[SOCCER] Thailand will experiment with an aggressive formation when they face the United Arab Emirates tomorrow in a friendly in the run up to their World Cup qualifying campaign, national coach Chanvit Pholchivin said yesterday.

The side is due to play minnows Macau in the home-and-away World Cup first qualifying round, with the first leg scheduled for Monday at home before playing the away leg a week later.

Chanvit said his side would adopt an aggressive 4-3-3 formation in their home fixture against Macau. He saw the UAE fixture, a farewell match for veteran striker Kiatisak "Zico" Senamuang, as an opportunity to assess whether the combination works or not.

"Against the UAE, we'll add one man up front to play in a three-pronged attack. We are at home so we need to be more aggressive. If the system is successful, we will use it against Macau," said Chanvit.

Asked about the line-up, Chanvit said: "I will stick with the lads who played in the Asian Cup. But, the trio, Teerasil [Daengda], Kiatprawut [Saiwaeo] and Suree [Sukha], who trained in Manchester City, will certainly feature in the game as I'm aware that people want to see them.

"For the three attackers, I will field Teeratep [Winothai], Teerasil and Suriya [Domthaisong] first. Zico would play in the second half."

Chanvit said he was not sure whether Sutee Suksomkit, who plies his trade in Singapore, would return to train with the team for the Macau match.

The Fifa rule states that the club must allow the player to train with the national team seven days prior to the match.

The game between Thailand and the UAE will kick off at 8.30pm at Supachalasai stadium.
