Chaikasem to be caretaker AG

Deputy Attorney-General Chaikasem Nitisiri has been nominated as caretaker Attorney-General following the retirement of Pachara Yuthithamdamrong.

Published on October 2, 2007

The Office of the Attorney General proposed the appointment of Kasem, who has the highest seniority. He will succeed Pachara at the Office of the PM's Secretary-General following Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont's endorsement. Public Prosecutor Commission chairman Pimol Rattapat has scheduled the meeting to appoint the next attorney general for next Monday.

If Surayud endorses Chaikasem as caretaker attorney general, he will carry out his duty until the National Legislative Assembly endorses the attorney general that the Public Prosecutor Commission agrees upon.

The Office of the PM's Secretary-General had requested that the Office of the Attorney General propose other candidates qualified for the post. The office submitted the portfolios of 11 others who were eligible.
