Thailand's concert organisers will be keeping their collective fingers crossed that Bangkok doesn't flood this month because the world's biggest names in hip-hop, R&B and metal - Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce and Megadeth respectively - are jetting into town for sell-out shows.

A mega month

Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce and Megadeth headline what promises

 Fans of other genres have less to celebrate though, with more meagre pickings on the local scene this month than earlier this year.

Sweet Strings

Renowned German guitarist Hucky Eichelmann and his friends get together for the aptly named "Acoustic Gig" this Saturday at Chulalongkorn University Auditorium from 8pm.

The unplugged concert features Marisa Sukosol-Nunbhakdi, Koh Mr Saxman, Surasee Ithikul, Phusaming Norsavan, Khun In aka Narongrit Tosanga, Pom Autobahn, Noom T-Bone and Chi -Karen Traditional Music Revival.

The German guitarist, who has been called a musical ambassador between the East and West, has introduced His Majesty the King's compositions to a wider audience and has also collaborated with several great artists around the world like Ravi Shankar, who also composed a concerto specifically for the guitarist.

Tickets are Bt1,800, Bt1,300 and Bt600 and are available at Thaiticketmajor. Part of the proceeds will be used to build a library for the children at Ban Mai Saha Samphan School in Pai, Mae Hong Son.

Reality bytes

Six celebrities-turned-singers from TV reality show "The Album" will showcase their abilities at a concert of the same name being staged on Sunday at 7pm at Bangkok Hall, Suan Lum Night Bazaar.

Fans of the programme can catch TV hosts ML Nattakorn "Pleum" Devakula performing "Pluem" and "Noi Jai" and Patcharasri "Kalamare" Benjamas singing "Choey Choey" and "Chai Nai Fun".

Actress Khemupsorn "Cherry" Sirisukha will cover "Khwam Rak" and "Krode Tham Mai", while actor Yardthip "Yard" Rajpal performs "Choo…" and "Phuean Khon Nueng" and fellow actor Thrisadee "Por" Sahawong croons "Yaak Takone" and "Khrai Sak Khon. Last but not least, news announcer Peerapol "Champ" Euariyakul will showcase his vocal prowess with "Kham Ngai Ngai I Miss U" and "Energy".

Easy Peasy

Black Eyed Peas return to the Kingdom on October 18 as part of their "Black Blue & You World Tour 2007" and will be on stage at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani around 9pm. The concert starts at 8 with a performance by Boston pop power outfit Click Five.

The tour is being presented by Pepsi in conjunction with the new "Pepsi More" advertising campaign, which features Black Eyed Peas.

Tickets range from Bt600 to Bt2,800 from Thaiticketmajor.

Metal with a message

Also on October 18, Californian Christian metalcore band As I Lay Dying will be rocking fans over at Studio 125, Mengjai Intersection, Soi Sahakarn Pramool.

Drummer Jordan Mancino, rhythm guitarist/pianist Phil Sgrosso, guitarist Nick Hipa and bassist/vocalist Josh Gilbert will be playing tracks off their latest album "An Ocean Between Us" plus earlier hits.

Tickets cost Bt1,000 (Bt1,200 at the door) and are available at Menu Phleng Happyland, JU Panthip, Inter Music Siam Square, Indy Pop Pongpetch, AMP Clothing, Contrast Tattoo (Van) Tan Tawan Bazaar, and Jack Jatuchak. The concert is organised by Music Help.

Pedal to the metal

A week later, American thrash metal superstars Megadeth jet into town for their first live gig in the City of Angels. Fans can catch them at Bangkok Hall, Suan Lum Night Bazaar on October 23 at 8pm.

Now one of the most popular metal bands in the world, Megadeth features Dave Mustaine, Glen Drover, James Lomenzo and Shawn Drover. Mustaine founded the band after leaving Metallica in 1983 and the new outfit, while following the basic blueprint of Metallica's relentless attack, distinguished themselves by lessening the progressive rock influences and speeding up the tempo.

The metallers will be playing tracks off their new album "United Abominations", after which their current world tour in named.

Nurturing nostalgia

Orawee Sajjanon, a singer with a bell-like voice, takes to the stage of Thailand Cultural Centre on October 27 and 28 for back-to-back concerts under the title "Phleng Waan Klang Krung".

The songbird, who has brought several Thai golden oldies back to life, will be crooning such heartfelt numbers "Waew Sieng Sueng", "Sanam Arom", "Rak Tong Ham", "Mae Sai", "Sai Nam Mai Lai Klub" and "Chang Rai Luea".

Guest artists include veteran actor Sombat Methanee, look thung star Wongjan Pairoj, pop singer Od Khiriboon and comedian Kluay Choenyim. The orchestra will be conducted by Vichai Punyayan.

Diva divine

Last but not least, Beyonce takes to the stage of Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani on October 30 at 8.30pm, as part of her "Beyonce Experience Tour".

The American R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, dancer, music video director and fashion designer rose to fame as the creative force and lead singer of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child, the world's best-selling female group of all time.

Tickets are Bt5,500, Bt4,500, Bt4,000, Bt3,500, Bt2,000 and Bt1,000 from Thaticketmajor.
