Cabinet lowers tariffs for NGV-fuelled public vans

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the temporary cut in the import tariffs for natural gas-fuelled public vans, to encourage diesel-fuelled vans to switch to the cheaper and more environmental-friendly fuel.

Pannee Sathavarodom, director general of the Fiscal

Policy Office, said that eligible for the privileges are vans with 15 seats or more.

The tariff rate for completely-built units would be cut from 40 per cent to 22 per cent until the end of next year. While locally-assembled vans would be exempted from the taxes until the end of 2012.

The tariffs cover retrofit costs. It is designed to make NGV-fuelled vans cheaper than vans driven by other fuels.
