Buriram upbeat on tourism growth

The local government and business operators in the northeastern province of Buriram expect an increase of at least 5 per cent in the number of tourists, following the election which should reinstate confidence among local and foreign travellers.

Kasem Watanatham, deputy governor of Buriram, said both sides would hold a meeting to prepare for the upcoming high season (November 2007-April 2008).

In the high season last year, Prasat Hin Khao Phanom Rung and Muang Tam Sanctuary welcomed at least 500,000 visitors. While historical and natural attractions will be further promoted, the province also looks to promote its unique cultures.
