Police said the daring attack was similar to previous robberies at the Thai Military Bank and Siam City Bank in the province in July and August.
Police rushed to the bank near Tesco Srinakarin at 1pm to find 40 bank officials and customers still in shock.
Bank clerk Sirichai Sukjirakul, 39, said that he and 10 colleagues were serving around 30 customers when two men on a Honda Wave motorbike parked about ten metres from the bank's entrance. The man on the back was armed and wearing a pink helmet. He jumped off the bike, fired a shot skywards, burst into the bank and forced everyone inside to lie face down at gunpoint, Sirichai said.
The gunman took Bt1.5 million in cash from the service counter nearest to the door, rushed back to his accomplice who kept the engine running and sped off.
The robbery was over in 20 seconds.
Police inspection of the security camera footage revealed that the clothing and behaviour of the robber was similar to that of the star of the previous robberies at Thai Military Bank's Theparak branch in August and at Siam City Bank's Theparak branch in July.
