Export data clarified
The Commerce Ministry insisted yesterday last month's year-on-year export growth of 17.9 per cent resulted from increased volume, and not the re-export of two nuclear reactors.
Ministry spokesman Krisda Piampongsant said the country had registered high orders during the last 10 days of August thanks to baht stabilisation and problems in China. The reactors are worth Bt748 million, insufficient to account for the growth, he said.
The Customs Department said actual export growth last month was 6 per cent year on year. It calculates its figures on customs-cleared exports, which are about 95 per cent of all foreign sales.
