Metropolitan Police Area 9 commander Maj-General Panurat Meepian ordered police protection for the 38-year-old, for fear he might hurt or kill himself.

Deputy Bangkok police chief Pol Maj-Gen Krisada Pankongchuen cancelled a meeting on the abduction at 10am yesterday after learning Sutheep had returned home.

Sutheep reportedly ran away  after being told to marry a woman he did not love.

Panurat said Sutheep was suffering from stress and declined to elaborate on the case until he had had an interview with the man.

Sutheep's relatives filed a complaint on Thursday night saying Sutheep, who owns a draper's shop in Old Siam Plaza, had been abducted by a group of unknown men. The victim's car was later found in the Petchkasem area with a note saying: "You have caused trouble to our family, so we have taken your child." Bloodstains, a turban and a shattered mobile phone were found in the car.

Police later discovered the blood was not human and security-camera footage from Old Siam Plaza showed Sutheep leaving the building but no one following him.

Panurat said police could not charge Sutheep with filing a false complaint because it was his relatives who filed the compliant. At the time, they were in shock and did not know the true circumstances of the events.

Panurat said he would consult with his supervisors on to what to do next. The Nation
