Goanpot to quit bank post

Goanpot Asvinvichit, president and chief executive officer of Government Savings Bank, has resigned from his post, effective in November.

Published on September 25, 2007

According to Excise Department Director-General Visut Srisuphan, as the bank's chairman, the board approved the premature resignation late August.

As the resignation is ahead of the general election, Goanpot was expected to resign to take a ministerial post. He was a deputy commerce minister in the Chuan administration in 1999.

Goanpot's four-year term ends on February 6, 2008.

Visut said, "I have informed the finance minister of the resignation. There is no problem. In the next step, the State Enterprise Policy Office would take care of this matter."

The resignation has been expected for some time as Goanpot has lately assigned important jobs to Voravit Chailimpamontri, a senior executive vice president. Voravit has handled press conferences or answered questions.

Goanpot was approached to be the bank's president by former deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak.
