Peerakiat, who played in the US Open before taking part in his homeland event, was overwhelmed with a string of unforced errors before losing to Levy 1-6 0-6 in only 35 minutes. It was a disappointing result for the Thai teenager after he crushed two Japanese players on the first two days of the competition.
Due to the 18-year-old Peerakiat's defeat, Danai Udomchoke and Kittipong Wachiramanowong have become the hope for the Thai fans. Danai will play against Levy tomorrow around 9 pm while Kittipong will take on World No 10 and the third seeded Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic on September 26.
In the other matches on Monday, American top seed Zack Fleishman beat his countryman David Martin 6-4 6-4, Dominik Meffert from Germany dismissed Swiss George Bastl 6-4 6-4 and Nick Lindhl from Australia took off German Simon Stadler 6-2 7-6(7-4).
However, Stadler might have considered himself very lucky when he earned a spot in a maindraw even if he lost in the last qualifying round because Hyung-Taik lee from South Korean has withdrawn. ---Alitta Tangrungruengkit, The Nation
