Thaksin on the shelf, so to speak

Thaksin's not around anymore to brag about the latest books he's reading, but he still makes his contributions to literature.

Published on September 24, 2007

He's now inspired two women to take up pens and write their first books.

Soopsip's just finished the latest - "Lydia …Here I Am!" - and really enjoyed the ending.

R&B Queen Sarunrat "Lydia" Visutthithada writes: "Por [Papa] Thaksin is my role model and he's motivated me to learn a lot of things in my life. More importantly, he's inspired me to search for the genuine meaning of the word 'democracy'."

Yes, well, Thaksin has inspired millions of other people in Thailand and elsewhere to go looking for democracy too.

The first book Mr T sponsored - oops! We mean inspired - "Thaksin, Where are You?" by Sunisa "Lieutenant Awol" Lertpakawatand, seemed to in turn inspire the title of "Lydia …Here I Am!"

Do you think there's any connection between this book boom and the first anniversary of the coup? Popular football columnist Buranit "Bor Boo" Rattanavichien - a harsh critic of the Thaksin regime - is about to release another title.

It's called "Bor Boo, Who are You? One Year After the Coup"

But relax, it's only about football and him.
