Wisut appeals for HM's pardon

Former gynecologist Dr Wisut Boonkasemsanti, who was sentenced to death in July for killing his estranged wife Dr Phassaporn and dismembering her body to conceal the crime in 2001, submitted an appeal for His Majesty the King's pardon, an official said Wednesday.

Wisut who was now detained at Bangkok's Bang Kwang Prison submitted the appeal by himself to the prison director Thanapat Chanthornpannik and the prison processed the appeal as this was the inmate's entitled right according to the Criminal Code, said Corrections Department deputy director-general Preeyaporn Srimongkol.

It is for His Majesty to decide whether he will be pardoned, she added. The prison will forward the appeal to the Corrections Department, which will submit it to the Justice Minister to pass it on to the PM's Office and the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary, she explained.
