State agencies to get workhours changed to ease traffic

The Cabinet yesterday gave the green light to change the work schedules of state agencies to alleviate traffic congestion, a source said.

The resolution proposed by the Secretariat of the Cabinet would require government agencies, state enterprises, and other government-run units in Bangkok and nearby provinces to use balanced working shifts.

Officials and employees can voluntarily choose one of three shift timings - 7.30am to 3.30pm, 8.30am to 4.30pm, or 9.30am to 5.30pm.

They would be encouraged to work in one of the three shifts in similar numbers so that traffic could be effectively reduced and the office-hour congestion alleviated. Organisations unable to follow the new rule, other than those agencies exempted by the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), must give an explanation to the OTP. - The Nation.
