Motorists' subsidy sought for rail network
Energy Ministry Piyasvasti Amranand insisted that the Oil Fund will collect 50 satang on every litre of sold fuel oil, to finance the rail network development nationwide.
He noted that such collection would raise about Bt1 billion a month. "To use the proceeds to finance rail network development, we would follow the legal framework. All the proceeds would go to the Energy Conservation Fund and the Transport Ministry could reimburse the funds in installments," he said.
The collection could start from late January 2008.
Piyasvasti noted that the funds would finance the development rail networks in Bangkok and provinces, for fairness.
