One-Two-Go insured

Budget airline One-Two-Go's aeroplane that crash-landed in Phuket on Sunday was insured for US$305 million (Bt10.45 billion), which covers damage to the aircraft and passengers, says Insurance Commission Office secretary-general Chantra Purnariksha.

She said an investigation showed One-Two-Go had purchased an insurance policy from a British underwriter with coverage of $300 million. This amount would cover loss of life, medical bills and shipment of the remains of the deceased. One-Two-Go also insured the aircraft for an additional $5 million, covering both the aeroplane and passengers.

Chantra urged the victims' relatives to check whether the dead and injured had their own insurance policies, so that the office could rush claim for bills on behalf of them. Relatives are invited to contact the office's Phuket branch at (076) 219 496, (081) 174 8960 or 1186.

" One-Two-Go is insured by a foreign insurer, which cannot deny responsibility," she noted.

One-Two-Go CEO Udom Tantiprasongchai said prior to leaving for Phuket yesterday morning that Transport Ministry regulations stipulated the company must pay Bt100,000 up front for the cremation of each dead passenger. This is on top of insurance compensation.

"We've been insured as well as the third party, entitled to 100-per-cent coverage," he said.
