Last member of AEC panel on fire trucks quits

The last member of an Assets Examination Commission panel looking into the fire trucks procurement scandal resigned on Monday from all his duties to take up a judicial position.

Jiraniti Hawanont has been appointed a chief judge in the Court of Appeals' consumers protection quorum based in Rayong.

He is among the seven members of the panel who resigned last week but continued to serve on the main AEC body until Monday.

AEC chairman Nam Yimyaem was earlier appointed chairman of the panel in place of Prasert Bunsri who resigned with the six panel members.

Nam said he would seek new members for the panel to further probe the Bt6.68billion contract.

The AEC twice rejected the panel's investigation results that did not implicate Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin or former city clerk Nathanon Thaweesin for their questionable roles in the procurement.
