Apirak wraps up everything so tidily

There'd been some cheap talk going around that Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin was keeping a "noticeable" distance from his fellow members of the Democrat Party.

But our reporters at last week's inauguration of the refurbished Giant Swing tell us otherwise.

It was pretty clear, they say, that Apirak remains quite deferential to his political colleagues.

Onlookers were waiting for him to ritually wrap the swing's pillars in ceremonial cloth, an ancient job involving riding a very modern crane aloft. First, though, Apirak excused himself and headed over to see the two Democrat phu yai in attendance, Abhisit Vejjajiva and Banyat Bantadtan, who were just leaving.

What? History is waiting and he's got to go grease the crony wheel?

The Democrats' slogan is "People Come First" - maybe they should clarify which people they're talking about.
