Thailand and Vietnam extend stock market cooperation

BANGKOK -- Thailand's stock market has agreed to promote cross-border and dual listings with the seven-year-old Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange, with listings of Vietnamese firms expected to begin next year, media reports said Tuesday.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and HCM Exchange signed a memorandum of understanding on the co-operation on Monday in Bangkok.

"With this co-operation, we hope that Vietnamese and Thai companies will have more opportunities to mobilize funds from both markets," HCM Exchange president Tran Dac Sinh told the Bangkok Post newspaper.

SET president Patareeya Benjapholchai said she expected Vietnamese companies to get listed on the Thai bourse next year.

SET has been providing the HCM Exchange with technological assistance for the past three years and will continue to do so under this week's agreement.
