Thai rice urged to release via bidding

The Rice Exporters Association yesterday called for the Commerce Ministry to accelerate release its rice stockpiles via the bidding programme in order to serve high demand of the world market.

The association's president Chookiat Ophawongse said that the rice bidding should not cause the drop of rice price as there is high demand for rice from the world market as well as being the period of the end of harvest season.

"The market is waiting the government to gradually release its rice stockpiles to serve demand of the market. Continuously bidding will increase confidence among rice exporters and importers that they will have enough supply for serving demand of consumers," he said.
