Asean should boost financial integration : seminar

Ministers and economists pointed yesterday that Asean together with Japan, South Korea and China should move forward on financial cooperation in advancing regional financial integration not only to strengthen the region's competitiveness but also a key economic driven force.



At a seminar yesterday entitled "Moving East Asia Forward" hosted by Yomiuri International Economic Society and Nation Multimedia Group at Dusit Thani Hotel, panelists shared the same views, saying that the financial crisis in the regional should be solved by members' cooperation.

One of the successful cooperation includes the Chiang Mai Initiative's bilateral currency swap agreement under which a country faces financial crisis can draw financial from members. So far, the 16 Asian members have already done swap agreement by US$83 billion. - The Nation
