His wife said Phissanu had asked for a sleeping pill at around 3am, before shooting himself in the right temple with his government-issue pistol at 5am.
His station chief said Phissanu had experienced chronic stress and had been taking medication for many years.
He said Phissanu had been well-liked by colleagues and had not been acting abnormally before he killed himself.
