Qantas Group buys Dpex Worldwide

The Qantas Group announced it had acquired 100 per cent of Asian express-freight operator Dpex Worldwide.

Published on September 8, 2007

Qantas executive general manager for freight enterprises Grant Fenn yesterday said the investment in Dpex, whose worldwide network includes 18 countries across Asia, represented an important development for Qantas Freight Enterprises.

"The Dpex Worldwide acquisition will provide us with an exciting opportunity to enter the Asian express market and significantly expand our footprint in the region," he said.

"This is a high-growth market that complements Qantas's focus on Asian air freight and our Australian express operations and provides a great building block for expansion and growth. We will be concentrating on expanding the company's operations in key markets, building the Dpex brand and developing enhanced products and services for clients."

Fenn said that the purchase of Dpex Worldwide followed the successful acquisition of 37.5 per cent of the Dpex franchisee in China on May 30.

Dpex Worldwide CEO Donald Tay will continue to lead the business as it develops and grows.

Oil prices set to rise by Bt0.40 today

Retail prices for all oil products will be increased by 40 satang per litre today.

Retail prices in Bangkok and nearby provinces will be: Bt25.69 for Gasohol 95 Plus (Bt3.50 cheaper than Octane 95 petrol), Bt24.89 for Gasohol 91 Plus (Bt3.50 cheaper than Octane 91), Bt29.19 for Octane 95 petrol, Bt28.39 for Alpha X 91 petrol, Bt25.44 for biodiesel/palm diesel (70 satang cheaper than diesel) and Bt26.14 for high-speed diesel.

PTT senior executive vice president of the Oil Business Group Chaivat Churitti said yesterday that global oil prices had been continuously moving up since late last month. During the past seven days, both crude and diesel prices shot up by more than US$3 (Bt103) per barrel. The price of Dubai crude rose yesterday to $70.84 per barrel (up $3.03), ULG 95 to $80.67 ($1.46 higher) and diesel to $87.44 (up $3.27).

This caused local costs to rise, leaving the marketing margin as low as 57 satang per litre, lower than the break-even point of Bt1.50. Oil firms have therefore been forced to increase their retail prices.
