However the sentence handed to Thassanee Chimphalee, 43, was reduced to 20 years due to a legal technicality. The Criminal Court also ruled that the defendant must return Bt2,933,675 to the Phoomi Phawan Company, which she worked for.

Thassanee was jailed for two years for each forged cheque she signed using the signature of well-known businessman Panlert Baiyoke.

She was also found guilty of document forgery, signature forgery, and theft.

Despite the fact she confessed and returned Bt56,000 stolen from the company after her arrest, the judge said Thassanee did not deserve a suspended jail term because she had committed repeated criminal acts.
