Bangkok residents expect election to be postponed

The majority of Bangkok people remain uncertain whether December 23 is the final election date, a public opinion survey has found.

Almost 57 per cent of the 1,466 Bangkok residents surveyed by Dhurakijpundit University said they were uncertain if the general election would take place on the day tentatively scheduled by the government and the Election Commission.

The remaining 43 per cent of the respondents said they were sure that the date was final.

Despite repeated assurance by Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont that the next election would be held within this year, many observers expected the polls to be postponed until early next year.

The survey was conducted on Monday and Tuesday.
