Siripol favours CCTV installation at rice silos

Incoming Commerce Permanent Secretary Siripol Yodmuangcharoen is prepared to suggest the National Rice Committee order the installation of closed-circuit TV at silos. Rice millers will have to shoulder the cost.

Siripol, now director-general of the Internal Trade Department, said this would help solve the rice robbery.

"From now, all rice millers that join the government's rice pledging programme will need to install the CCTV at the counters where they take in the rice. I will propose this to the NRC soon," he said.

The NRC is chaired by Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont.

Through the CCTV, rice storage data could be checked and the government would know the movement of the stocks. He estimated that each rice miller wil need to invest Bt10,000-Bt20,000 on the CCTV installation.
