The former Manchester United goalkeeper said while talks Monday had been "good and positive" the offer was now no longer on the table.
"What we wanted is not on," Schmeichel told reporters after the talks with Brondby management.
Schmeichel headed a group of investors that offered to take over Brondby for 250 million kroner (45 million dollars). The 43-year-old goalkeeper would take over as new sports director and the group would also appoint three board members.
Schmeichel and the club management did not detail their outstanding differences.
Brondby, a long-time powerhouse in Danish football, have in recent years struggled and placed sixth in the standings last season.
The 10-time league champions are currently on 10th place in the 12-team league. Last week one of the club's main sponsors said it would not renew its contract.
