Owen Wilson has been released from hospital less than a week after his suicide attempt.

The Wedding Crashers star insists he is glad to be alive despite slashing his wrists and taking a drugs overdose, reported Mirror.co.uk

He was resting at his California home watched closely by friends and family on Saturday night. Doctors are satisfied the 38-year-old actor is coping with the trauma since trying to take his own life last Sunday.

A source said: "Owen is in bad mental shape but he has said he is thankful to be alive. He knows he came close to ending his own life, and he is happy that he was saved from himself.

Wilson was found unconscious by his brother Andrew, 43, with an empty pill box by his bed and cut wrists. He was said to have been devastated after splitting from screen star girlfriend Kate Hudson, 28, and seeing pictures of her cuddling and kissing her new love, actor Dax Shepard. They got together just a month after she broke up with Wilson.
