Teachers paid for special knowledge

The Finance Ministry in August used Bt785 million of treasury reserves to pay for teachers nationwide, who were promised of extra benefits for their special knowledge.

Comptroller General's Office Deputy Director-General Manus Jamveha said in September, over Bt12.7 billion will have be paid to the teachers.

About 364,806 teachers are entitled to the extra pays, which is estimated at Bt1.2 billion per month.

"Due to limited budget, we resorted to the treasury reserves," Manus said, adding that it is estimated that in September, about Bt12.7 billion is needed and the department will ask for the Finance Ministry's permission to use more treasury reserves given the limited central and personnel budgets.
