Trendy and Thai

Among the highlights was the presentation of the Thailand Fashion Designers Awards (TFDA) to a group of young, talented designers. Each of the 10 finalists showcased four outfits to a panel of judges, who included Supatra Srisuk, a product development specialist with the DPA, ML Kathathong Thongyai, the director of DEP's Product Development Centre, and Jitsingh Somboon from Greyhound.

Their collections were presented by 40 models, among them such top names as Namthip "Bee" Chingrachatavibul, Kanyanat "Alien" Bamrungpong, Niwatra "Duen" Kamkaew and Virunpat "Im" Thephassadin Na Ayudha.

The winner was Chanoknan Mukdaphongsatorn, who also received the most popular vote. His collection "Simulation" was inspired by the old wooden house in which he grew up.

The first runner-up prize went to Paisan Tanakame from his 'Phenomenon Romance' collection, which featured a modern yet romantic look with a mixture of techno-fabric and natural canvas.

Bunyaratt Sitapan grabbed the second runner-up award for her 'Zen Line' collection, employing seemingly natural lines to convey a relaxed feeling.

The winners received Bt70,000, Bt50,000 and Bt30,000 respectively, along with honourable plaques and certificates. They will also be visiting the D&A Expo in New York to broaden their fashion horizons.
