Davies joins Villa as Johnson returns to Portsmouth

London (dpa) - Defenders Curtis Davies and Glen Johnson were the two big early movers Friday, as the transfer window entered its final hours.

Davies has left Championship side West Bromwich Albion for Aston Villa on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move, while Chelsea full-back Johnson has re-joined Portsmouth, with whom he impressed on loan last season, for an undisclosed fee.

Everton have re-signed Danish midfielder Thomas Gravesen from Celtic on a season-long loan, while centre-back Dejan Stefanovic has left Portsmouth for Fulham in a 1-million-pound (2-million-dollar) deal, pending a work permit.

Charlton striker Marcus Bent is back in the Premiership after agreeing a season-long loan move to Wigan.
