More misery for Sunderland

London - English Premiership side Sunderland crashed out of the Carling Cup Tuesday, losing 3-0 at League One side Luton.

After winning their opening game of the season, Sunderland have taken just one point from their last three Premiership games, and their season got even worse as a goal from David Bell and two from Paul Furlong condemned them to a comprehensive defeat.

To make matters worse, full-back Greg Halford was sent off.

Derby County were the other Premiership casualty on the day, losing on penalties to Blackpool after a 2-2 draw.

Portsmouth hammered Leeds 3-0, Birmingham beat Hereford, West Ham beat Bristol Rovers, Fulham won at Shrewsbury, Reading scraped by Swansea and Aston Villa hammered Wrexham.
