Pornthape Thunyapongchai, governor of MEA, said the MEA next year will offer fibre-optic leased lines and Low Voltage Power Line leased lines to telecom operators, service providers, content providers and other companies in terms of virtual private networks. As a result, they will able to provide videoconferences, Voice over IP and high-speed Internet to their customers. The MEA also plans to provide networks to small and medium enterprises as well as end users in the next several years.
There are more than eight private companies such as telecom operators, telecom services and other service providers in negotiations to hire the MEA' network which covers more than 10,000 kilometres around the Bangkok metropolitan area.
Prasitt Hemwarapornchai, deputy governor of MEA, said the MEA will provide high-speed fibre-optic leased lines, depending on content and service providers. If they need to start from one gigabyte they can provide triple play television to their customers and high-speed networks to homes. "MEA's network services will allow companies and service providers to sell value-added services to their customers at affordable prices," said Prasitt.
He said the MEA also offers electronic services to 2.6 million customers by allowing them to order electricity services and pay electricity bills via www.mea.co.th or the call centre on 1130.
The private enterprise also has a successful drive-through pilot project at the Bangkhen district branch office where customers are able to pay electricity bills without leaving their cars. It plans to expand this service to other branch offices.
