Organizers have confirmed that Croatia's Ivo Karlovic, Canada's Frank Dancevic and American Sam Querrery will be competing in this year's ATP Thailand Open to be held from September 22-30.
Karlovic, who is ranked #30 in the world, has served more aces than any other player this year, averaging 20 aces in each match he has played. His serve has been clocked at 239kph. The giant Croatian stands 208cm tall and is the tallest player ever to make the top 100 rankings.
"Karlovic is an extremely dangerous player," said Thailand Open Organizing Committee co-chairman Chaiyapak Siriwat. "He has already made three finals this year, and won titles in Houston and Nottingham. Opponents find it almost impossible to break his serve and none of the top players is going to want to face him at the Thailand Open."
Both Querrey and Dancevic have made big leaps in the ATP rankings this year. Querrey has jumped from #130 at the beginning of the year to his current #48. Querrey has served the fifth highest number of aces in matches this year and in the recent tournament in Washington, served 10 aces in a row on his way to defeating James Blake.
"Querrey is going to be a big name in tennis. He is only 19 years old and this will be a great chance for Thai tennis fans to see this star of the future," added Chaiyapak.
Dancevic is the top-ranked Canadian player and competed at the Thailand Open last year when he was ranked #92. This year he has recorded wins over top players including Andy Roddick and Benjamin Becker and is currently ranked #69 in the world.
