[TENNIS] Tamarine Tanasugarn made an early exit at the Flushing Meadows, losing the opening round match to No 19 seed Sybille Bammer of Austria 4-6 4-6 on Monday.

Tamarine, suffering from a back injury, fought back from 2-5 in the second set but her resistance was finally over when the lefthander Austrian broke her in the final game.

Tamarine, however, is still in the doubles competition as she and Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus will face Taiwan's Hseih Su-wei and Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva in round one.

On the men's side, Danai Udomchoke will play American Wayne Odesnik, No 156 in the world, tonight
