Portraits from the troubled South
Since 2004 more than 2,300 people have been killed in Thailand's deep South and an estimated 1,740 children have been orphaned. These children, widowed wives and bereft parents are the subjects of images by Bangkokbased Japanese photojournalist Masaru Goto.
He has been working with local nongovernmental organisation Team Soraya, based in Pattani, which assists both Muslims and Buddhists in the region.
Having documented the conflict since early 2004, Goto is trying to get the word out that the violence is on the increase and is affecting almost all aspects of life. He is seeking financial support to continue his work.
