Gen Sonthi travels to Burma before retiring in September

Council of National Security's chief Gen Sonthi Bunyaratglin left for Burma on a two-day visit Monday as he prepared to retire by the end of next month.



Sonthi arrived in Burma's new capital; Naypyidaw, and was due to meet Burma's two most powerful generals; Senior General Than Shwe and Vice Senior General Maung Aye.

Thai News Agency reported that Sonthi will spend the night in Naypyidaw before heading to Rangoon on Tuesday.

Gen Sonthi said before leaving that top on the agenda will be strengthening of cooperation along the border. Any border problems should be settled there.

The visit is part of a series of trips by Sonthi to visit neighbouring countries as he prepares to retire from the military at the end of September.
