We're not trying to help Suriya: CNS

The spokesman for the Council for National Security (CNS) yesterday denied that it was trying to help ex-Thai Rak Thai executive Suriya Jungrungreangkit in exchange for support in the coming general election.

Colonel Sansern Kaewkam-nert dismissed an allegation by an independent academic ear-

lier in the week that Suriya would be dropped from the CTX airport scanning-machine corruption probe by the CNS-appointed Assets Examination Committee.

"[It's a] total lie," said Sansern. The allegation was made after some 10 million voters rejected the junta-sponsored draft con-stitution leading to speculation that the CNS needed to com-promise with some elements within the erstwhile Thai Rak Thai Party.

"There's no need to do that, because as of now neither the chairman of the CNS or any

other member of the CNS has decided to enter politics," he said. "The fabricated news is part of an ongoing scheme including rumours about another coup and that when the draft charter was endorsed General Prem Tinsulanonda would become regent. All have been proved false."
