Nakhon Ratchasima police commander Maj-General Amnat Anart-ngam said police had interviewed 20 witnesses, as investigators tried to trace the source of the explosives and conducted a detailed background check on the deceased, Thanakorn Neelmont.
Earlier police searched and seized 18.5 bars of power-gel explosives, 111 fuses and a portion of nitrate fertiliser from a stone mill in Nong Bunnak district .
Mill owner Wichit Thip-arphorn, a relative of the businesswoman, Somjit Thip-arphorn, said he was in the process of applying for a renewal of permission for possession of the explosives after the old one expired two months ago. Police charged Wichit with having explosives without permission. He was later bailed out by two army officers using their positions to meet the Bt500,000 bail sum.
Nakhon Ratchasima deputy commander Pol Colonel Korakot Sariya expressed his personal viewpoint that Thanakorn might have been trying to arm three explosives in the ill-fated Toyota sports-utility vehicle when two bombs accidentally exploded, just like the scenario of "a snake wrangler dies from snake bites" story.
