Yaowaphan Ho, 55, the grocery owner, died soon after arriving at hospital. The bomb was planted in a metal box and many soldiers were present when it was set off, apparently by remote control.

Two novices, aged 13 and 22, were among six monks wounded along with five soldiers escorting them as they were begging for alms.

In Sai Buri district, about 100 local women and youths demonstrated at Ban Tohbala for the release of eight suspects, including two women, from the community who had been accused of taking part in a recent ambush on security officers.
