Blushing brides

Marriage is not the end of the story but the beginning.

Published on August 26, 2007

Even with plenty of help at hand, the bride and groom have to deal with many things to ensure their big day is a success while, at the same time, preparing to start a new life.

With this in mind, Siam Paragon recently organised a high tea party and invited Thanpuying Varaporn Pramoj, ML Piyapas Bhirombhakdi, Major General Kannikar Sasiprapar and Dr Cathleen Kichodhan to share their experiences on preparing for their wedding days.

Kannikar, mother-in-law of leading actress Latita, revealed her thoughts on what makes a successful marriage and offered plenty of beauty suggestions, particularly the secret to a flawless skin and healthy complexion.

"I didn't have much time to prepare for my wedding preparation," she smiled. "As a soldier, I was always training very hard. My husband told me to have a skin scrub before the big day. Brides-to-be nowadays have many more choices to take care of their looks.

"I think the most important recipe for a successful marriage is to recognise each other's faults and to forgive."

The mother of one-year old son, Cathleen spoke about choosing the perfect engagement and wedding rings, as well as jewellery to match western style wedding dresses.

"My husband and I chose the wedding rings together. But for my engagement ring, my husband bought me one from Tiffany's New York while he was on a business trip. I suggest selected a classic and simple style as it will never go out of fashion."

While Cathleen talked about western banquets, ML Piyapas illustrated traditional Thai wedding practices, including the classic Thai style wedding costumes to be worn by bride and grooms who are blessed in a nuptial water ceremony by the royal family.

"Those who have wedding ceremony given by the royal family have to dress politely according to the Bureau of the Royal Household's rules. For the palace, the bride should wear a Thai Borombhiman-style gown with gold or beige shoes and the groom must be attired in typical white outfit."

Thanpuying Varaporn wrapped up the party by sharing why her 42-year marriage has been such a success.

"The couple should respect each other," said the 65-year-old Thanpuying Varaporn who is still active, modern and healthy.

"It's quite normal to have differences of opinions and argue sometimes as we come from different backgrounds. However, my husband and I made a commitment never to quarrel while we are with the children."

Siam Paragon's Wedding Showcase is also displaying stunning wedding gowns and the wedding gifts of several celebrities including the four guest speakers as well as those belonging Suthasinee Buddhinan, Ausanee Mahagitsiri, Palleeporn Phornphrapha, Yelly Ricondell and Pannadda Wongpudee.

The exhibition at the complex's Hall of Mirrors ends today.
