Anantara Resort and Spa Golden Triangle was recently recognised as one of Top 10 eco-friendly hotels in Asia by Agoda.com, a hotel-booking website for Asia and the Pacific.
The honour is for outstanding environment management inside the luxury property.
Located in Chiang Rai's Chiang Saen district in northern Thailand, the resort supports eight elephants (including two calves), which were rescued from a life of begging on the streets. With help of local mahouts, the resort is now organising basic elephant training for visitors who wish to get up close and personal with these huge yet gentle creatures.
In addition, Anantara protects and tries to reintroduce indigenous areas to wildlife and birds that may have disappeared from the local ecosystem or migrated elsewhere. The extensive grounds of the resort are maintained as a safe place for wild birds.
