The "Mahout Discovery" package at Anantara Resort, Golden Triangle, is offering a wild but luxury experience in the famous Gold Triangle. The package combines a four-night stay in a Deluxe room with three days training from a mahout. By the end of the holiday, using basic commands you should be able to direct a domesticated elephant to pick things up with its trunk, and to kneel down. Also included is a visit to the Hall of Opium and a jungle trip by elephant. Prices start at US$740 (Bt24,200) for a single and $980 for a double room. The resort is located in Chiang Saen district, where Thailand, Laos and Burma meet by the Mekong River.
