Damages ruling to be given on Dec 17

The Civil Court has set December 17 to rule on whether yesterday's lawsuit filed by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra demanding Bt1.5 billion in damages from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) merits a judicial review.

In the plaintiff writ prepared by his lawyer Pichit Chuenban, Thaksin contends that DSI director general Sunai Manomai-udom had made a number of misleading statements designed to tarnish his reputation.

Sunai's remarks are in connection with the investigation into the alleged equity cover-up involving SC Asset Corporation, a listed company for property development.

In a separate litigation, Thaksin assigned his lawyer Boonchaleaw Dusadee to file a criminal lawsuit against the 11-member Assets Examination Committee last Friday.

The committee members, including chairman Nam Yimyaem, have been accused of abuse of power in raising frame-up charges relating to the 2003 Ratchadaphisek land purchase by Thaksin's wife, Khunying Pojaman.

The Criminal Court hass scheduled November 26 to rule on the merit of the judicial review.

Sunai said he was not worried about the case and it would not affect his work.

"More obstacles make me stronger, I will continue to work to the best of my ability," he said.
