PM expects decision on election date by Monday

The Election Day should be finalised by Monday tentatively choosing either December 16 or 23, Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said on Thursday.

"Monday will definitely have the date scheduled," he said.

Election Commission secretary general Suthiphon Thaveechaigarn said he was preparing a full report on electoral preparations which would be the basis to schedule the balloting date.

The EC will have factor in many issues, such as the legislative process for three organic laws relating to the elections, absentee balloting abroad and voting arrangements for direct and proportionate votes, he said.

Among the preparations, the EC is mapping out a new public relations campaign to counter vote buying.
