Court to decide Thaksin's lawsuits against DSI in December

The Civil Court has set December 17 to rule whether the Thursday's lawsuit filed by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra demanding Bt1.5 billion in damages from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) merits the judicial review.

In the plaintiff writ prepared by his lawyer Pichit Chuenban, Thaksin contends that DSI director general Sunai Manomaiudom has made a number of misleading statements designed to tarnish his reputation.

Sunai's remarks are in connection with the investigation into the alleged equity coverup involving SC Asset Corporation, a listed company for property development.

In a separate litigation, Thaksin assigned his lawyer Boonchaleaw Dusadee to file a criminal lawsuit against the 11member Assets Examination Committee last Friday.

The committee members, including chairman Nam Yimyaem, have been accused of abuse of power in raising frameup charges relating to the 2003 Ratchadaphisek land case.

The Criminal Court is scheduled November 26 to rule on the merit of the judicial review.
