Two major factories in Phichit lay off workers

Two major factories in Phichit province suffering economic losses have folded and laid off 195 workers, said Padungsak Thephasadin na Ayutthaya, the directorgeneral of the Labour Protection and Welfare (LPW) Department on Thursday.

Phichit said the LPW Office had been informed that President Agri Trading, a rice exporter, and President Grain Silo, which supplied Agri with roasted rice grains in Bang Mun Nak district, had suffered serious financial losses since the beginning of this year closed down on Tuesday laying off 195 workers.

Padungsak said following talks with the staff, the employer agreed to pay each worker 2.5 times his normal wage by the end of August.
