The nine-day gastronomic event dubbed "The Marvellous Malaysian" will showcase a myriad of culinary offerings by talented chefs from Kuala Lumpur.

The buffet will feature a range of savoury dishes and desserts including kari udang nenas, jumbo shrimps in the shell cooked in a blend of fresh herbs, onions and red curry paste, served in a pineapple bowl; and prawns zalfrezi, an Indian-style curry in which marinated prawns are fried in oil and spices to produce a thick dry sauce.

The Marvellous Malaysian menu is available for lunch and dinner and includes a cultural dance performance. Call (02) 236 7777.

Tuscan taste

Call it a match made in culinary heaven. On August 30, Giorgio's, Thailand's premier Italian restaurant on the Chao Phya River, is hosting a very special dinner featuring Ruffino wines from one of Italy's top producers.

Six scrumptious modern Italian dishes plus pre-dinner cocktail canapes will be expertly paired with seven wines from this famed Tuscan winemaker. Warm up your appetite with grissini and Parma ham, assorted salami on brown bread as well as other canapés served with Rosa di Ninfa Rose.

Then satisfy your senses with marinated seafood salad with fresh greens and herbs served with Orvieto Secco, Orvieto Classico DOC; home-made white bean soup with pasta served with Libaio, Chardonnay Toscana; and Italian rice with mushrooms in a delicate champagne sauce served with Riservia Ducale, Chianti Classico Riserva.

Grilled snow fish and jumbo prawns with various herbs follows and is served with pan-roasted porcini and polenta cake accompanied by Greppone Mazzi, Brunello di Montalcino. The meal ends with torta di gelato served with Serelle Vin Santo Del Chianti.

Seating is limited, so advance booking is recommended. Diners can choose between air-conditioned comfort in the recently remodelled 23-year-old landmark or alfresco dining on the terrace overlooking the River of Kings.

The wine tasting dinner starts at 7pm and costs Bt3,500. For more information and reservations, call (02) 266 9214 or e-mail events.rosh@sheraton.com.
