Upon his official nomination, Pakorn will be the third Bank of Thailand alumnus to chair the board after Chavalit Thanachanan and Vijit, whose term expired last month.
Although Vijit was set to retire a couple of months earlier, the nominating committee seemed to take longer than originally expected to find his replacement.
For instance, they had to look for potential candidates and do background checks before the official nomination. The candidates should have a solid economics-related background, an essential element to boost the market's confidence.
Pakorn was recently named one of the SET's board members, paving the way for his nomination as chairman.
