Middlesbrough sign Tottenham's Egypt striker Mido

London - Middlesbrough have splashed out 6 million pounds (12 million dollars) to sign Egypt striker Mido from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old, out of favour at Spurs, has signed a four-year contract and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's Premier League game against Fulham.

Middlesbrough have lost both their first two games of the season and manager Gareth Southgate moved quickly to sign the striker who had also been linked with Sunderland and Birmingham City.

"I played against him as a player and he always impressed me," Southgate said. "He's got good technical ability - he's a goalscorer."

"When you've got one of the best crossers of the ball in the league in Stewart Downing, you want someone like Mido who can head the ball."
